Background
Diamond Fitness has been providing fitness equipment, saunas, steam rooms and sports flooring to fitness centers, gyms, and individuals across the country for over 30 years. When I met the owner of Diamond Fitness, he was incredibly frustrated by his web presence.
Despite having paid multiple developers to create multiple web sites for him over the years, none of them met his basic needs. Customers couldn’t find his site. When they did, only a small fraction of his vast product offering was showcased. It was time for a complete overhaul. The client handed over the reigns and wanted the entire package, soup to nuts.
Everything had to be created from scratch, from the CMS to the content. Product descriptions, images, meta data and attributes had to be collected, written, edited and input into a brand new content management system for a catalog of over 3,000 products. For this site, I used OpenCart as the eCommerce CMS solution. Since the client’s retail costs can vary depending on a variety of factors, he wanted customers to submit their selection of products as a quote request, instead of a purchase. OpenCart was customized for this exact use case.
Considering the wide variety of products in the catalog, it was vitally important that customer’s could browse and filter their products easily to find what they were looking for. Hundreds of attributes were created and assigned to each of the 3,000+ products so that when a customer views the product listing, they can drill down to a product on a granular level.
